Happy Trails--Part 1--The Campgrounds
Chisholm Trail---Historic Trails Project
Duncan, Oklahoma
The Campgrounds...
The campgrounds and lake didn't have a whole lot to offer in the area of scenic beauty...
...although Fall was beginning to make itself known...
But they did have a swing set and the boys took full advantage of it!
As did the adults...
And it made for some special father-son moments...
and favorite roomie moments...
The Fire...
Duncan taught some younger scouts to build a fire.
The Cooks...
The Food...
Troop 30's favorite domestically challenged kitchen goddess realized that Mark and Karen were both celebrating birthdays in October and took it upon herself to celebrate those milestones. (nobody is hearing from me how old they were) Karen's cake was decorated to portray a charming little campground. I thought it might be Spanish Peaks but there is no bear in evidence so obviously it depicts another campground.

A Hike, a Hut and Some Pork Chops
We arrive at Camp Williams, set up camp and it's time for a little basketball...
Saturday morning: breakfast has been cooked and eaten, KP is complete. Time for a hike but first we have to double check the compass and make sure everyone has plenty of water.
The adventure begins. It is a mash-up of a scavenger hunt, an exercise in tracking and some first-responder training, woven together in a story told by Michael as we hike along.
First stop is the Nature Hut.
It's a good thing there is plenty of parking available...
We happen upon a chapel in the woods. Time for a bit of a sermon. I forget what his text was. Perhaps something about seeking the lost...
We find some clues, arrows and foot prints on the path...
We have discovered a crude shelter in wilderness.
Inside the shelter there appears to be a gravely wounded scout.
The scouts discuss a good course of action to render first aid and figure out how to get him out of the wilderness. Then they decide they ought to go and dig a trap.
Is it deep enough? Yes, it is appears to be deep enough.
Enough of digging in the dirt...time for a little tree climbing...
Patience pays off!
Supper preparation begins with fire-making...
Now this is how we cook like men...
And this is what men eat...pork chops!!
And on Sunday we end our weekend campout with a Devotional talk by our Chaplain's Aide.
